Artist statement
My work explores the fleeting and fragmented nature of memory—how places, feelings, and moments shift over time. Inspired by nature’s changing landscapes, I use layers of acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media to capture both clarity and uncertainty, light and shadow.
Blues run throughout my work—deep indigos, soft ceruleans, and vibrant ultra marine tones—reflecting the vastness of sky and water, but also the weight of emotion. Some marks are fluid and uncontrolled, like memories slipping away, while others are structured, anchoring what remains. There is a constant push and pull in my process, a balance between presence and absence, struggle and release.
I work on both canvas and paper, allowing each material to influence the way images emerge. Some forms are clear, others dissolve into abstraction, much like the way we remember—some details sharp, others blurred. Shadows play an important role, hinting at what is hidden or lost, while nature’s textures and patterns often find their way in.
Ultimately, I am drawn to the space between remembering and forgetting, where fragments of the past take on new meaning in the present. My work is an invitation to linger in the in-between spaces.
